Triple Zero Victoria (TZV) provides the critical link between the Victorian community and the state’s emergency services agencies. It provides Victoria’s 24-hour emergency call-taking and dispatch services for Police, Fire, Ambulance and VICSES.

This integration of emergency services communications within Triple Zero Victoria is unique in Australia and rare worldwide. The team at Triple Zero Victoria is deeply committed to the community it serves and is among the most dedicated and highly skills in its field.

About the Role

As Senior Legal Counsel (Coronials and Litigation), you’ll lead complex, high-impact legal matters involving the Coroners Court of Victoria and civil litigation. Working closely with senior leaders, VMIA, and external legal partners, you’ll shape legal strategy and manage risk in a dynamic emergency services environment.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of public sector legal practice, influence organisational outcomes, and take ownership of critical cases—while developing your expertise in a supportive, fast-paced team with real purpose.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Deliver expert legal advice on complex coronial matters, civil litigation, and related legal issues to executives, senior leaders, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage external legal services for coronial and civil litigation, including oversight of legal strategy, claims administration, and coordination with panel firms and VMIA.
  • Advise on legislative compliance and statutory interpretation, particularly in relation to the Coroners Act 2008 (Vic) and other relevant legal frameworks.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks by providing practical, proactive solutions that protect TZV’s interests in sensitive and high-risk matters.
  • Promote a strong legal risk culture by embedding legal risk awareness into organisational practices and decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement by reviewing legal processes, developing guidance and training materials, and building internal legal capability.

About You

To excel in this role, you will combine deep legal expertise with strong leadership and communication skills, delivering clear, practical advice on complex coronial and civil litigation matters while effectively engaging stakeholders across the organisation, in addition to:

  • Unrestricted Australian practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria); ideally with 7+ years post-admission legal experience.
  • Proven ability to provide authoritative, high-level advice on complex legal issues, particularly relating to coronial cases and civil litigation.
  • Exceptional conceptual and analytical skills, with a track record of developing innovative, pragmatic solutions aligned with organisational goals.
  • Demonstrated success leading and influencing across all organisational levels, working independently and within multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear, concise, and well-reasoned legal advice on complex matters.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective partnerships internally and externally, a commitment to staying current with legal developments.

What We Can Offer You

You will be supporting a critical service to the Victorian community and will be rewarded with a competitive salary, flexible working arrangements and employee benefits including:

  • Employee assistance program for employees and eligible family members
  • Discounted health insurance, banking services and gym membership
  • ‘Memberlink’ discount card, accepted by 1,000's of retailers and services providers
