Triple Zero Victoria (TZV) provides the critical link between the Victorian community and the state’s emergency services agencies. It provides Victoria’s 24-hour emergency call-taking and dispatch services for Police, Fire, Ambulance and VICSES.

About the Role

 

The Data Engineer is a key and active participant of the Emergency Communications Information Services (ECIS)  team.

The successful applicant must have experience managing incidents and changes and the ability to solve technical problems to ensure improved system security, availability and performance.

 

The goal of the function is to ensure that information flows timely and securely to and from the organisation as well as within.

 

Reporting to the Data Group Lead, specific accountabilities will include project-scoping, design, planning, deployment, and testing of new technology and transition to support documentation. Other accountabilities include updating ESO and government data, troubleshooting and incident resolution.

 

The main purpose of the role is to ensure all Emergency Services Organisations (ESO) and related Government Agency Data (including spatial) set requirements are processed, loaded and maintained in TZV’s Oracle and SQL database environments.

 

As part of the ITS team you may be required to travel or transfer between your primary work location and other TZV sites to effectively carry out your duties. Normal working hours are 38 hours per week between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Friday. You may be required to work reasonable overtime and participate in an on-call roster.
 

 

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Act as the subject matter expert for data administration activities within TZV

  • Liaise with internal and external business stakeholders to understand their data processing needs and manage the processing of their data into TZV’s Computer Aided Dispatch system

  • Ensure data currency and accuracy

  • Process data in accordance with specified procedures and service levels

  • Ensure data supply specifications exist and are consistently maintained

  • Participate in the continuous Service Development life cycle strategy, including but not limited to, developing tools or processes to assist TZV/Stakeholders in better delivery of data to and from TZV.

  • Manage the rectification of incidents as per the IT Incident Management process

  • Create systems documentation to support change and knowledge transfer

  • Drive automation regarding data processing

  • Continuously review and revise TZV’s standards and procedures related to data processing to ensure accuracy and efficiency

  • Develop and drive a strategic direction that continuously improves data processing capability at TZV

 

 

 

About You

The preferred candidate for this role will have a Diploma or Tertiary qualification in IT or a related discipline, as well as the following skills and experience- 

  • Extensive/Demonstrable knowledge and experience in SQL Server Scripting and Oracle
  • Extensive/Demonstrable knowledge and experience using GIS related software (ESRI software suite)
  • Demonstrable experience with a Computer Aided Dispatch system
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability and understanding in change management, continuous improvement and delivery implementation
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills with capacity to assess and resolve technical issues and initiate improvements
  • A strong ability to manage conflicting demands from identification through to resolution
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
